Female infertility is spreading across the entire nation at an alarming rate lately. It has largely to do with the kind of lifestyle that the urban women are nurturing and other factors including stress and lack of physical activity, etc. Healthcare experts suggest that a healthier lifestyle that’s a combination of healthy eating habits, regular exercise, and a stress-free working environment is important to prevent infertility and other pregnancy-related problems. However, yoga can be extremely helpful in that endeavor as well, especially since it tends to cover all these elements alone.
Yoga and Fertility
Yoga can do wonders for a woman’s fertility in the following 3 ways:
- Stress Reduction
Stress is one of the leading causes of female infertility as it affects the menstrual cycle and delays ovulation. However, yoga is a natural and highly effective therapy that can lower the stress levels and calm the mind that tends to be overwhelmed with the hyperactive modern life.
- Improved Health of Reproductive Organs
A large number of yoga exercises focus on the abdominal region and thus help in removing the muscular tension around the uterus, ovaries, and the fallopian tubes. This improves blood circulation in the area, and enhances fertility. It also helps in an easy delivery of a baby and lowers the risk of pregnancy complications.
- Enhanced Chakra Energy
A comprehensive yoga therapy focuses on the entire energy system of the body of which the 7 chakras (the energy channels) are an essential part. It enhances their energy levels and dissipates the bad energy from the body. Most importantly, specific yoga positions focus on the second chakra, which is also known as the “seat of creation,” i.e. the reproductive organs.
Yoga Exercises for Women Fertility
The following are some of the most effective yoga exercises for stress reduction and fertility promotion:
Lie down on your back and straighten your legs against a wall. Try to maintain a 90-degree angle. Stretch your arms outwards and let them rest with the palms facing upwards. Close your eyes and breathe mindfully. Hold the position for 5-10 minutes.
This exercise reduces stress and removes tension in the pelvic area.
Stand straight, relax your knees, exhale, and bend forward until your hands reach the ground. Raise your toes and tuck your hands under them with the palms facing up. Hold this position up to a minute as you breathe slowly and calmly. Then take a deep breath and return to the original position. Repeat 3-5 times.
This exercise improves blood circulation in the reproductive organs and increases the energy in uterus and ovaries.
Stand on your mat with feet wide, and take a deep breath. Exhale slowly as you lower yourself into a squat, hands joined in a “Namaste.” Stretch your hips outwards and hold the position up to a minute. Then take a deep breath once again and go back to the original position. Repeat 4-5 times. This exercise stretches the muscles around the reproductive organs which enhances the flexibility of the pelvis area and the hips.
It’s no secret that yoga is a powerful therapy for a healthy mind and body. However, by focusing on select exercises, a woman can enjoy good fertility and healthy pregnancy as well.
